TABC STORM Swirl Past Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School LIONS, 54-40

The final game of the day on Thursday featured the #3 TABC Storm against #14 Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School Lions. Right off the bat, the Storm showed their strength with a Yonah Mandel uncontested layup. Despite their explosiveness, JDS was able to keep the TABC offense relatively under control, limiting them to 18 points by the end of the first quarter. JDS’s offense, on the other hand, was unable to find their rhythm, only sinking two shots all quarter. The first quarter ended with TABC up, 18-5.

TABC was able to grow their lead at the start of the second quarter by scoring 5 points on their first two possessions. TABC continued to dominate the whole quarter apart from the 6-point run they allowed to the Lions at the end of the quarter. TABC went into the locker room with a comfortable 39-18 lead. The star player for JDS going into the second half was Jakob Lipsky with 6 points and 5 rebounds. TABC’s Yoni Mandel was the scoring leader going into halftime with 17 points.

The second half started slow, with TABC keeping JDS to no points in the first seven minutes. TABC’s Eyal Kinderlehrer and Bentzion Keiser had a large effect on this shutout by dominating rebounds, combining for a total of 15 boards halfway through the third quarter. By the end of the quarter, TABC had strengthened their lead to 48-26.

Despite a strong effort by JDS in the fourth quarter, TABC was able to close out the game, winning by a score of 54-40. Game leaders included TABC’s Yoni Mandel with 17 points and2 rebounds, TABC’s Eyal Kinderlerher with 10 points and 9 rebounds, and JDS’s C Blumenthal with 16 points and 2 rebounds. JDS, although heavily outmatched, played a great game, and it’s looking like they might be able to make a deep Tier II run.
