DRS Wildcats Cool Montreal HEAT 78-56, clinch Final Four Berth

In a Tier 1 matchup on Friday morning, The #2 DRS Wildcats faced off against the only Canadian team in the tournament, the #7 Montreal Heat. DRS coach Moshe Cohen began the game by calling over 4 plays in the first minute, showing they were more than ready to compete this morning. Adir Sacknovitz, began the game for DRS by scoring the first layup of the game, ultimately crushing the tensions of the 0-0 score and raising the competition. The Heat was quick to even the game with David Dadoun scoring their first basket. As the game went on, so did the fouls, with Montreal ending the first quarter with 3 fouls and the Wildcats with 4.

The second quarter began with lots of missed free throws from Montreal and some last-minute layups from DRS. Continuing into the second quarter, DRS played to their duo on the court, Joe Aaron and Tzvi Tsaidi, who scored most of the points for the team. Once Adir Sacknovitz came back to the court with a 3 pointer, the team’s chemistry only increased, and the playmaking was phenomenal to watch. Montreal was not taking the Wildcats 7 point lead lightly and came back to the court with a vengeance. The Heat learned from their past mistakes and focused on making foul shots this quarter as well as defending DRS’s star scorer Joe Aaron. The second quarter ended 35-24 in favor of DRS.

The third quarter was off to a great start beginning with a 3 pointer by DRS’s Tzvi Tsaidi. Though the Heat tried, they could not slow the game down with DRS playing a man to man defense. Hillel started off their 3rd quarter with a three pointer from number Isaac Cons and some great defense and rebounding from Yaacov Ohayon. Though DRS was in the lead by 20 points (54-34), the Montreal Heat continued to play with the determination to turn the game around and DRS continued to play as though they’re the ones that were down.

DRS began the 4th quarter by giving Joe Aaron a rest and putting Tzvi Tsaidi and Mikey Freund to work. The Heat began their full court press, giving neither team a chance to catch their breath. DRS subbed in 3 new players, confident in their 20 point lead. With less than 2 minutes left, the Heat also subbed in some new faces as DRS hit 5 fouls in the 4th. The game ended in a DRS victory, 78-56. The leading scorer for the Wildcats was Joe Aaron for 23 points and the leading scorer for the Heat was Isaac Cons with 16 points.
