CESJDS Lions Spoil Cooper MACS’ Hometown Hopes with 50-33 Victory in Tier 2 Showdown

The JDS Lions claimed a decisive 50-33 victory over the Cooper MACS in the Tier 2 consolation game, securing 13th place in the tournament and finishing 5th in their tier.

The game started with the Cooper MACS taking an early lead. Eli Wiesfogel won the tip-off, and Benny Frieden converted immediately for a quick basket. Jonah Siegel added to the MACS’ momentum with a steal and a fast-break layup, including an and-one conversion. However, the JDS Lions responded with intense defensive pressure that limited the MACS’ scoring opportunities. By the end of the first quarter, the Lions had managed to turn the tide and established a 12-8 lead.

In the second quarter, the MACS briefly took a 15-14 lead following back-to-back free throws by Siegel and a three-pointer from Jack Kampf. The teams traded baskets for much of the period, but JDS’s steady play allowed them to retain a slim advantage. Kampf, the standout performer for the MACS, was particularly effective, contributing 10 points and 3 rebounds in the first half. By halftime, the Lions held a 24-21 lead.

The third quarter saw Kampf continuing to play well, including an and-one layup that brought the MACS within striking distance. However, the Lions’ dominance on the boards began to take a toll. By the end of the third period, JDS had out-rebounded the MACS 26-16, with Leo Steindecker grabbing 8 rebounds. This advantage in the paint fueled a late-quarter run by the Lions, extending their lead to 37-27 heading into the final frame.

The fourth quarter began with both teams struggling to score. Despite the MACS’ efforts to mount a comeback, they couldn’t find their rhythm, and JDS continued to control the game. As the clock wound down, the Lions pulled away further, securing a comfortable 50-33 win.

Cyrus Blumenthal was the standout for JDS, finishing with 17 points and 5 rebounds, while Dylan Shank added 12 points and 5 rebounds. The Lions’ balanced scoring attack proved to be too much for the MACS. For Cooper, Kampf was the bright spot, scoring 14 points and grabbing 5 rebounds, while Siegel contributed 10 points.

JDS’s ability to control the glass and maintain a consistent offensive rhythm proved crucial to their victory. With a solid all-around performance, the Lions ended their tournament run on a high note, finishing strong in the Tier 2 bracket.
