DRS Wildcats Edge TABC Storm in Thrilling Semifinal to Secure Tier 1 Championship Spot

The DRS Wildcats and the TABC Storm entered this Tier 1 semifinal matchup with everything to play for—a coveted spot in the Tier 1 Championship game. Fans were treated to a tense and electrifying game that went down to the wire.

The first quarter began with energy and intensity. TABC won the tipoff, but DRS’s Tzvi Tsaidi immediately made his mark, stealing the ball and converting a layup. TABC’s Akiva Borgen quickly responded with a three-pointer to give his team the lead. After the initial burst of action, the pace slowed significantly as both teams struggled to find the basket. Late in the quarter, TABC’s Yonatan Faber provided a spark, sinking back-to-back three-pointers to briefly give his team a one-point advantage. However, DRS regained control in the closing seconds to end the first quarter up 12-11.
The low-scoring trend continued into the second quarter, defined by deliberate play and gritty defense. Borgen showcased his talent with a tough and-one layup that momentarily put TABC ahead, but DRS quickly answered with a crucial three-pointer to retake the lead. Joe Aaron proved to be a vital presence for the Wildcats, contributing 7 points and 5 rebounds in the half. DRS entered halftime with a narrow 21-17 advantage.

The Wildcats came out strong in the third quarter, establishing dominance early with a three-pointer from Adir Sacknovitz. DRS steadily extended their lead, demonstrating exceptional defensive discipline to contain TABC’s star scorer, Eyal Kinderlehrer. Through three quarters, Kinderlehrer was held to just 9 points, a testament to DRS’s defensive focus. By the end of the third, DRS had built a commanding 38-27 lead, seemingly in control of the game.

But the fourth quarter told a different story. TABC stormed back with a surge of energy, led by Borgen, who scored his 14th point to ignite a rally. Kinderlehrer came alive, achieving a double-double midway through the quarter with points and rebounds. His efforts, combined with a clutch three-pointer from Faber, cut DRS’s lead to just 5 points. With two minutes remaining, TABC had clawed back to trail by a single point, setting up a thrilling finish.

In the final moments, after a series of scoreless possessions, Joe Aaron once again rose to the occasion for DRS. With just 15 seconds left, he drove to the basket and made a tough, contested layup to give the Wildcats a three-point cushion. TABC’s desperation three-pointer missed its mark, but Kinderlehrer grabbed the rebound and quickly scored a putback. However, time ran out before TABC could mount another attack. DRS escaped with a dramatic 44-43 victory to secure their spot in the Tier 1 Championship game.

Joe Aaron was the standout performer for DRS, finishing with 19 points and 7 rebounds, including the game’s decisive basket. For TABC, Eyal Kinderlehrer delivered an outstanding performance with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Akiva Borgen added 13 points. Despite TABC’s valiant fourth-quarter rally, DRS’s resilience and composure in the critical moments proved to be the difference.
