Wolfpack Roars to Victory: Valley Torah Dominates HAFTR 64-43!

In a high-energy matchup to conclude their weekend, the Valley Torah Wolfpack claimed third place in the Tier II bracket of the Annual Memphis Invitational with a decisive 64-43 win over the HAFTR Hawks. Both teams entered the game eager to finish their tournament campaigns on a high note, but Valley Torah’s relentless defense and balanced scoring proved too much for the Hawks to handle.

HAFTR made a bold statement with their striking pink-and-blue ombre jerseys and won the opening tip-off. However, their early offensive struggles set the tone, with three missed layups and a costly 5-second violation. The Wolfpack capitalized quickly, with #30 Yaron Mahgerefteh scoring the game’s first points on a rebound put-back.

Both teams initially struggled to find their rhythm, but a Wolfpack timeout shifted momentum. Following the break, #23 Josh Mesica ignited Valley Torah’s offense, sinking back-to-back three-pointers to establish an 8-2 lead. HAFTR called a timeout to regroup, but the Wolfpack’s full-court press continued to disrupt their efforts. At the end of the first quarter, Valley Torah led 17-9.

In the second quarter, Valley Torah extended their lead with sharp shooting from #5 Joey Victor, who opened the frame with a deep three-pointer. Their defensive intensity stifled HAFTR, which struggled to keep pace as the Wolfpack widened the gap. By halftime, Valley Torah held a commanding 35-21 advantage, with some lighthearted moments, including #33 Adam Bouzaglou briefly playing with his shorts on backward.

The third quarter brought a burst of energy from both teams. Mahgerefteh scored on a fast-break layup to start the half, but HAFTR’s #3 Nate Meyer responded with a three-pointer, a steal, and a trip to the free-throw line to keep his team in the fight. Despite Meyer’s efforts, Valley Torah continued to build their lead, capped off by a buzzer-beating three-pointer from #3 Aaron List to close the quarter at 49-32.

The fourth quarter saw fast-paced action as both teams pushed the tempo. Valley Torah maintained control, with #24 Ben Mahgerefteh orchestrating the offense and contributing crucial points. HAFTR fought valiantly and called a late timeout in an attempt to mount a comeback, but the deficit proved insurmountable. The Wolfpack smartly ran down the clock in the final minute, securing their 64-43 victory and a well-earned third-place finish.

With their stellar defensive play and balanced offensive contributions, Valley Torah’s performance was a fitting end to their strong showing at the tournament.
