STAFF SERGEANT AUBREY GREER – UNITED STATES SPECIAL OPERATIONS – TO SPEAK ON SHABBOS AT THIS YEAR’S INVITATIONAL
- Updated: October 27, 2023
On September 11, 2001, Aubrey watched on TV as Flight 175 struck the South Tower in New York – killing thousands, in the deadliest attack on U.S. soil since Pearl Harbor in 1941. Two months later, Aubrey left college behind and enlisted in the United States Army. In his nearly decade of service in the Global War on Terrorism, Aubrey served as an Army Ranger, the most elite and lethal special operations combat soldiers in the U.S. Army, and lead teams of embedded special operators tasked with eliminating Taliban forces on the Pakistani border.
He served multiple combat deployments in both Iraq and Afghanistan where he conducted missions ranging from reconnaissance, to urban combat, to counter-insurgency. Aubrey’s unit, in tandem with certain special operations forces, conducted the assault on the safe house occupied by Sadam Hussein’s two sons, Uday and Qusay – an assault which resulted in both of their deaths. He also participated in numerous assault missions along the Iranian border with Iraq to find, fix, and kill various cells, led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi – who is sometimes credited with founding what would become ISIS.
Aubrey led raids and other operations calculated to find, capture, or kill numerous high value targets of enemies, including Al Qaeda, Ansar al-Islam, the Taliban, the Haqqani Network, and various other Islamic extremist groups – including Iranian-backed organizations. During his service with the U.S. Army, Aubrey operated with some of the most elite fighting forces on the planet, including special operations forces from allied nations.
Aubrey will speak about his own service, why he chose to put his life on the line, and the sacrifices that come with fighting for freedom and against evil. He will relate his own experiences to those of our brothers and sisters in Israel and help give us a much deeper understanding of, and appreciation for, what the soldiers of our IDF are undertaking to protect Israel and the Jewish people.
Aubrey will speak to all participants of the Invitational between Kiddush and lunch Shabbos morning, November 4, in the Irby and Bernice Cooper Beit Midrash at the School.
